Mark McKamey has posted Legal Technology: Artificial Intelligence and the Future of the Law Practice (APPEAL Review of Current Law and Law Reform – (2017) 22 Appeal 45) on SSRN. Here is the abstract:
Lawyers are increasingly told that advanced technology is coming soon to their doorsteps and will radically change the nature of their work. These warnings are often vague and unthreatening to a profession that has happily operated in much the same way for over a century. This paper examines the notion that technology will radically disrupt the legal profession by first describing the drivers of modern technological progress and the recent rise of artificial intelligence (AI). It then considers what current technology trends might mean for the legal profession, concluding that technology is likely, in a relatively short period of time, to transform how legal services are delivered.
