Perry on AI and Judicial Decision-Making

Melissa Perry (Federal Court of Australia) has posted What do judicial officers need to know about AI in their decision-making? on SSRN. Here is the abstract:

The astronomical rate of change and scale of developments in machine technologies has far outpaced the capacity of humankind to develop the moral, ethical, legal and philosophical frameworks within which such technologies should be designed, developed, deployed and used. We are at a pivotal point in human history, confronted with the reality of machines of exceptional power which are capable of being harnessed for the betterment of humankind but also capable of great harm. The author explores current international collaboration on the creation of legal frameworks for the design, development, deployment and use of these new technologies. She also discusses the appropriate use of technology in decision-making and legal research, and the risks of misinformation and disinformation posed by new technologies in the context of modern means of communication.
