This article tells the story of KVOS v. Associated Press (1936), the decision in which has become a lost footnote in Supreme Court history. The justices never reached the merits of the case in KVOS, but it still commands our attention because, as Rogan Jones, the Pacific Northwest broadcast entrepreneur and owner/operator of radio station KVOS, repeatedly emphasized – all that was at stake was the future of “free speech.”
