This paper examines the political idea of anarchy. A variety of approaches to anarchism are presented, providing a suitably complex definition. The paper looks at arguments for and against anarchism as a political theory and political practice. Originally delivered as a lecture at the Australian National University, the paper provides an introductory overview of the idea of anarchy.
